Steel ExpressFast FactsBioSteel Express is one of the most unique and dynamic groups on the Chicago scene. Their distinctive blend of Caribbean steel pans, with an exciting American beat, has delighted audiences throughout the Midwest. The group was founded in 1982 by Mark Smith. He has a Masters Degree in Percussion from the American Conservatory of Music and has visited Trinidad to study "Pan" and its music "Calypso." His expertise and experience ensures the authenticity of the Trinidad tradition, as well as the highest degree of contemporary musical quality. Steel Express continues to perform on the Chicago scene with great vitality. The group performs on boats, at country clubs, parks and nightclubs throughout the Midwest, presenting a wide variety of entertainment for festivals, schools, weddings and parties of all kinds. They have been featured at Taste of Chicago, with Jimmy Buffet at Popular Creek, and they can be heard on WLUP FM 98 with Johnny B on his show.
