Soul music, a combination of rhythm & blues and gospel music, began in the late 1950s in the U.S. and hit its stride with the advent of the Motown label in Detroit. With its emphasis on dance, rhythms and vocals, it became the music for "dancin' & singin' in the street." Now seven Chicago natives, all children of the soul era, bring you their authentic soul sound with Soul Cookin', featuring outstanding vocals on all the great sounds of the Motown era and beyond. These musicians have over 25 years of solid professional experience, with a powerhouse rhythm section built from some of Chicago's top musicians. Paired with the sweet sound of Mike McGowan's natural tenor and stage presence and the powerhouse vocals of Marcia Lynn & Brandi Smith, Soul Cookin' covers some of the greatest American jazz and R&B classics. This includes songs of the 50s, Motown sounds of the 60s, the 70s disco era, and right into the 21st Century's contemporary dance hits.
