Bio

Like many solo artists, Matt began his solo career after the break-up of Holding Mercury, a band he fronted for over two years. Although this band was more rooted in the hard rock/alternative category, Matt, as the primary songwriter, wrote all of the Holding Mercury songs on his acoustic guitar. As a result, the transition from band to a solo performer was an easy one.

The full band experience has also brought some of the showmanship and presence of an over-the-top "rock show" to the often "sit-on-a-chair-and-strum" stereotype of solo acoustic performance. As an accomplished guitarist, Matt employs a sometimes aggressive and intricate guitar playing style along with the use of effects and samplers to create a more unique and diverse sound than that of the typical solo performance.

Last year alone, Matt played over 75 shows in combination with Holding Mercury, and as an acoustic performer playing in more of a "cover" type atmosphere. From the acoustic performances, especially, where the sets were often three hours long, Matt has learned how to keep a crowd's attention and match the music with the particular setting. Matt has brought this mentality to his original acoustic performances, and looks forward to playing colleges clubs across the U.S.
