to Scandinavian Waltzes BioThis exciting group’s repertoire (drawn from over 20 cultures) directly addresses the American experience: a Greek girl laments being promised off to a rich American, a Bulgarian woman wonders if her husband off in America will ever send for her, a Finnish logger brags (in “Finnglish”) of all the women he’s met during his American travels, and in the ultimate synthesis of old and new worlds, the 40s pop hit Bei Mir Bistu Schein professes love in “Yinglish” (Yiddish-English). Jutta & the Hi-Dukes gets feet dancing and hands clapping. These talented multi-instrumentalists teach and lead simple, fun, line and circle dances as well as getting folks drumming along on the band’s percussion toys. The whole family, from toddlers to seniors, gets to join in! But be forewarned! The Hi-Dukes is NOT your daddy’s cute ethnic band. These folks play their music for real, with the same power and intensity which propels any hot dance band! Anne Decker of Wisconsin put it into the best words: “Thank you for music – for dancing – for joy.” Professional Performers — Proven Crowd Pleasers Since 1990, Jutta & the Hi-Dukes has excited audiences across the Midwest, on both the East Coast and West Coast, as well as in Canada and Europe, at festivals, concerts, private parties, universities, schools, and libraries. The band’s size ranges from duet to sextet. Events with specific focuses are possible to arrange. |
