BIO

JG3 is a Chicago based jazz-fusion group that has been performing at a wide variety of club, educational and private events since 1996.

Jim Gifford has been drumming since he was 6 and leading JG3, a Chicago based jazz-fusion trio, since 1996. He has also done extensive live and studio work with singer-songwriters, rock, soul, jazz, latin, funk and avant garde projects and produced live music for countless modern dance concerts as well as numerous recordings with producer Brian Deck.

In addition to JG3, Jim freelances around Chicago and he recently contributed live music to “Electric Miles”, a modern dance tribute to Miles Davis’ electric fusion period that received a DanceBridge grant though the City of Chicago.

Recently Jim performed with uber-guitarist Guthrie Govan doing originals from his latest recording “Erotic Cakes” as well as with uber-guitarist Chris Poland, formerly of Megadeth and currently with LA fusion group OHM.

Jim is a member of the jazz / fusion group PolCat which includes Guitarist Chris Poland, Saxophonist Frank Catalano and bassist Sean O’Bryan Smith, which is releasing its debut record on jazz label GrooveQuest in the Fall of 2011.

Jim also is in the process of recording an album with legendary Nashville bassist Roy Vogt and guitarist Gabriel Datcu which will be released by GrooveQuest in the Fall of 2011.

Jim has played with many inspiring musicians including Chris Poland, Guthrie Govan, Billy “The Buddha” Dickens, Brian Deck, Roy Vogt, Doug Johns, Gabriel Datcu, Kevin Guin, Andy Deluca, Sean O’Bryan Smith, Rudy Ray Moore, Chris Ptacek, Malgorzata Sztwiertnia, James Cammack, Bobby Lewis, Ruben Alvarez, Paulinho Garcia and many others.
