Bio

BANDA RIKA is a Latin band with a powerful, versatile and highly entertaining dance show that can be found performing their blend of Latin music at clubs, dances, conventions, festivals and private events throughout the Chicago land area.

Banda Rika's music repertoire consists of Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Bachata. In order to create the spicy, jazzy sounds of Salsa and the tantalizing rhythmic percussions of Merengue, the band is composed of a 10-piece Orquesta and a two person front line. Banda Rika's complete entertainment show and versatility really offer a refreshing change to today's other musical choices.

In only their second performance, Banda Rika was invited to perform in the 1999 'Batalla de Merengue'. This contest was setup to determine who would be crowned Chicago's hottest merengue band of 1999. Although they did not win, Banda Rika gave a strong showing, finishing second in a contest, which concluded in a two-way tie for first.

In 2002, Banda Rika would again compete for the title of Chicago's best Salsa/Merengue band. This event featured six of Chicago lands finest. Banda Rika would not be denied as they took the crown. This would mark that first time that a suburban band would be Chicago's best Salsa/Merengue band.

In 2003, Banda Rika would add another feather in their cap. Band Rika was named “Best Suburban Latin Band” by Suburban Nightlife as voted by their peers and supporting public. Banda Rika has established themselves as one of the areas finest Tropical Latin bands. They have shared the stage with Latin greats such as: Arturo Sandoval, Grupo Niche and Grupo Kaoss. On a given weekend, they can be found playing at many of Chicago land’s finest clubs.
